Inauguration celebration planned

The community is invited to attend a potluck celebration of the election of Barack Obama and Sen. Mark Begich from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai. Beverages will be provided. For more information, call Sharon Waisanen at 262-6298.

Heart health to be discussed

Reading carnival vendors sought

The sixth annual free Peninsula Reading Carnival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 7 at Soldotna High School. The purpose of the carnival is to encourage literacy in the community through the involvement of families in literacy rich activities.

Booths that would provide entertainment, serve as a fundraiser, provide literacy activities or share literacy information are being sought.

A booth fee may be required. Proceeds from booth fees will go toward funding literacy projects on the Kenai Peninsula. Fees will be free for members of the Kenai Peninsula Reading Council; and $20 a booth for nonmembers, which includes a one-year membership in the reading council.

Health fair slated

Kenai Peninsula College will host a community health Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 18, in the campus commons area. More than 30 health and wellness exhibitors will display their products including life style coaches, nutrition products, chiropractic spinal screening and massage, active release therapy, low vision testing, weight and blood pressure analysis, community service booths etc. Low cost blood testing for cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid, Vitamin D deficiency and others will be available from 9 a.m. to noon. Relay for Life kickoff planned

Supporters of the Central Peninsula Relay for Life will host the annual kickoff event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Challenger Center of Alaska in Kenai. The kickoff event will feature food, prizes, early team registration discounts and entertainment along with a grand prize drawing for a round trip flight on ERA to Anchorage plus $100 in spending money. In addition, there will be information about the Relay for Life event coming up in May. Money raised at the Relay for Life goes to the American Cancer Society to help find a cure for cancer.

Photographers guild to meet

Then Kenai Peninsula Photographers Guild will meet at Soldotna Middle School at 7 p.m. Tuesday to view and discuss recent pictures. Understanding histograms will be the night's discussion topic. The public is welcome to share. For more information, contact Marianne at 398-3979.
