Kenai ball held tonight

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce annual Town and Gown Awards Ball will be held at 8 p.m. at the Diamond Rose in Kenai. The theme of the ball is Winter Wonderland. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased from any Kenai Chamber of Commerce board member. For more information, call 283-7989.

Elks to serve up food

The Soldotna Elks Lodge will serve a dinner today at the lodge from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dinner will consist of steak, shrimp basket or steak and shrimp. Cost of the dinner is $9 for the steak or shrimp and $13 for the combination.

Tips on raising goats presented

The University of Alaska Cooperative Extension will hold a meeting Saturday at 1 p.m. to offer tips on raising healthy goats. The meeting is open to 4-H members and the public. For more information, call 260-5766.

Talent show planned Saturday

The 2001 Shining Stars Talent Show will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Soldotna High School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and can be purchased at the door. There will be door prizes. All proceeds go to Central Peninsula General Hospital.

Auction held to raise funds

A Chinese auction will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Millie's Moose River Inn to raise funds for a 5-year-old cancer victim in Ohio. Donations also are needed for auction. For more information, call Debbie at 260-4933.

Dental health topic of meeting

A Healthy Communities-Healthy People's meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Soldotna Senior Center. There will be a presentation on the central peninsula access to dental health care for children enrolled in Medicaid-Denali Kid Care, Community Health Project. Health and Social Services Deputy Commissioner Jay Livey also will provide an overview of Gov. Tony Knowles proposed budget for the 2002 fiscal year. For more information, call 262-1831.

Red Cross to offer classes

The American Red Cross will offer a community first aid and safety classes Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m.

The class includes first aid, adult, infant and child CPR. The courses meet all OSHA and workplace requirements. The cost of the classes is $58. For more information, call 262-4541.

School to conduct lottery

The Aurora Borealis Charter School will conduct an enrollment lottery April 10, which will determine the 2001-02 school year placement of students on the waiting list.

Application and copies of the enrollment and lottery procedures are available at the school office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications for enrollment for the 2001-02 school year must be delivered in person to the school office no later than 4 p.m. March 16. The lottery results will be posted at the school April 16.
