Even as a Kenai Kardinal graduate back in 1984, Duke Harcastle has had a dream of having his own automotive repair shop. It grew even stronger when he left Kenai to go to college in Austin, Texas. "I helped put my wife through nursing school in Texas, and then returned home keeping the dream alive of someday having my own shop," says Duke. His wife Dawn calls Duke's new facility a "Mini-Miracle." "Like all miracles that happen, people are always involved with making them happen. And I call this place a mini-miracle because my husband was doing some work for Clint Hall, of Hall Quality Builders, who was impressed with his work and Duke shared his dream of having his own shop someday, and basically Mr. Hall said "Let's make it happen." and here it is and he's our miracle worker," said Dawn.
"Duke is just the real deal," says Hall. "He has the natural talent and integrity needed to run a successful business, and when I saw the kind of work he was able to do on some of our vehicles transmissions, I felt it would be an asset to the whole community to help make his dream come true. I had the property and of course the ability to build what he needed, and I couldn't be happier to see him up and running," said Clint.
Duke's Transmission Automotive & Tire Repair does complete automotive repair on any vehicle foreign or domestic, young or old, large or small, commercial or personal. "I like things that are complicated, and I like jigsaw puzzles and basically finding the solution to something that's not working properly. Today we combine the old mechanics mentality of instinct and knowhow with the computer skills necessary for today's autos. The times are changing and we are state of the art high tech and have all the latest computer diagnostic equipment needed to work on any vehicle. We designed a special bay for large campers, trucks, or commercial equipment," said Duke.
Duke's celebrated their grand opening January 4th, and have been busy ever since. Located off the Bridge Access Rd. in Kenai next door to Carlile Transportation, Duke's offers a brand new 6 bay automotive shop complete with large modern waiting room for customer comfort and a ASE Atra certified master mechanic on duty at all times for customer satisfaction. "We offer 4-wheel computerized alignments, oil changes and lube jobs, complete brake and engine repair whether its gas or diesel, computer diagnostics, and tire repair and change over for all tires. And of course we specialize in transmissions, automatic or standard, foreign or domestic," added Duke. Duke says he is planning some February specials, watch the Peninsula Clarion for details, but call or stop by and check out the new facility anytime.
