Refuting Kent State assertion

Posted: Wednesday, January 19, 2011

This letter is in response to the opinion column by Matt Towery in the Peninsula Clarion on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011.

How dare you state, not even imply or allow one to infer, that the students who were murdered at Kent State were responsible for their own deaths. In your, "Insider Advantage" piece of Jan. 17 you state, "In the spring of 1970, some students protesting at Kent State University in Ohio became aggressive, as passionate young people are susceptible of doing sometimes. That's when some National Guardsmen -- also young, but armed, too -- confrontetd the most threatening of the Kent students. Soon, four students lay dead."

I knew Allison Krause. I know she was not aggressive, nor were any of the students aggressive in such a way that deadly force was necessary. The incident is shameful and shall ever reflect on the attitudes that people such as yourself bring to the table.
