Habitat for Humanity opens 2011 applications

Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity has opened the application period for the 2011 summer build. Applications will be accepted throughout February. Please contact Sharon, at 262-7534, for more information about qualifications and an application.

Masters swim team hits the pool

The Kenai masters swim team swims from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Kenai Central High School pool. The group is open to swimmers over the age of 18. There is a $69 annual registration fee, and $50 montly fee. For more information, contact Will Hubler or Jenn Ticknor at 283-7476.

Builders to talk about cold climate research

The Kenai Peninsula Builders Association will hold their January meeting on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Mykel's restaurant in Soldotna. The guest speaker will be Jerry Herring from Central Alaska Engineering Company. Herring is also part of Cold Climate Housing Research Center, and will talk about that organization's news and projects. The public is welcome. What's happening at Ninilchik Senior Center

Jan 24: Quilting, 12:30 to 4 p.m. Beginners welcome. Lunch: Beef brisket, potato salad, cole slaw, french bread.

Jan. 25: Scrap booking, 12:30 to 4 p.m. Great advice and supplies available. Lunch: Taco Tuesday. Men's Night Pool, 6 to 9 p.m.

Jan. 26: Purse-wallet scavenger hunt during lunch with prizes for the winning team. Lunch: Liver and onions, Chef salad.

Jan. 27: Ninilchik Community Forum meets at 11 a.m. Public invited and encouraged to attend. Lunch: White lasagna, spinach, garlic bread. Pinochle games following lunch at 12:30 p.m. All levels welcome. One and two deck games.

Jan 28: Knitting, 1 to 4 p.m. Beginners welcome. Lunch: Cook's Choice!

The senior center is also looking for a nickname.

Art guild has annual meeting

The Peninsula Art Guild annual board meeting for members, artists and the community will be held Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Kenai Fine Art Center, 816 Cook Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m. The Guild is looking for new board members, new programs and ideas. Prostate cancer meeting today

There will be a meeting for men affected by prostate cancer at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Redoubt room at Central Peninsula Hospital. Family and friends are welcome. For information call Jim at 260-4904.

Become an 'Outdoor Woman'

Alaska Department of Fish and Game has opened registration for the Becoming an Outdoors Woman Alaska winter workshop to be held March 11-13 near Chickaloon at Victory Bible Camp. Classes include fire arm safety, shotgun, archery, field dressing, bear safety, ice fishing, fly tying, fly fishing, pike palooza, dog mushing, cross country skiing, snow machining and GPS, as well as numerous other classes. The workshop is open to adults 18 and older. Registration fee is $250 until Feb. 15, and $300 after that. Young mens' leadership group meets

The Tikahtnu Chapter of DeMolay and Squires, young mens' leadership organizations, are holding an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 for parents and young men between the ages of 9 and 21.
