Area students make the grade

Kristi Knudsen of Kenai was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. To be named to the dean's list, students must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5 while taking at least 12 credit hours of classes.

Lyndi Tauriainen of Soldotna was named to the president's list for the fall semester at Montana State University Bozeman. To be named to the president's list, students must maintain a perfect 4.0 grade point average while carrying at least 12 credit hours.

In addition, Ingrid Abrahamson of Anchor Point; William Creamer, Sydney Schoepke and Clayton Smith of Homer; Anthony Lewis of Kasilof; Katherine Amen, Zachary Bell and Travis Haskin of Kenai; and Jacob Fellman of Soldotna were named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Montana State University Bozeman. To be named to the dean's list, students must maintain a grade point average of at least. 3.5 while carrying at least 12 credit hours.

James R. Fletcher of Kenai was named to the honor roll for the fall semester at the University of Oklahoma. To be named to the dean's list, students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average and carry at least 12 credit hours.

Allyson Larned of Soldotna was named to the president's list for the fall term at Portland State University. To be named to the president's list, students must maintain a perfect 4.0 grade point average while taking at least 12 credit hours.

Peninsula residents join Army

Two peninsula residents have enlisted in the U.S. Army's Delayed Entry Program, which allows individuals to join the Army, secure their guarantee and delay departure for up to a year.

Mary G. Rehrig of Soldotna has enlisted as a personnel information system management specialist, and will leave for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., on Tuesday. She is a 1999 graduate of the Alaska Job Corps in Palmer and the daughter of Jacqueline M. and Leon B. Rehrig of Soldotna.

Daniel C. Martin of Kasilof enlisted as a Cavalry Scout, qualifying for a $10,000 cash incentive. He left for basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., on Jan. 2. He is a 2001 graduate of Kenai Alternative High School and the son of Royce A. Mellish and George C. Martin of Kasilof.

Elks table tennis tournament results announced

Gary Brumley and Brannon Ames won the Soldotna Elks' weekly table tennis tournament Wednesday. Dan Mortenson and Wayne Brooks placed second, and Gus Gunther and Chad Botirius took third.
