Coal-bed methane leases should be bought back; water at risk

Posted: Tuesday, January 20, 2004

Dear Governor Murkowski,

I have owned property, including a cabin out East End Road since 1976 and have resided in the Homer area at this cabin since 1994 whenever I'm in Alaska and not visiting "outside."

I fully support the buyback of the coal-bed methane leases in the Homer area and within the Anchor River watershed.

Besides the possible infringement on my property and that of my neighbors by the development of these leases, I am concerned about the potential negative impact of the development on our drinking water, for we all obtain this water from individual wells on our properties.

It has been difficult for me to believe that the state of Alaska awarded these leases without the proper public input concerning the proposal. Amazing!
