UConn hands Pitt first loss of season

HARTFORD, Conn. Denham Brown scored 20 points to lead fourth-ranked Connecticut to a 68-65 victory over No. 8 Pittsburgh on Monday night, leaving three unbeaten teams in Division I.

The Huskies (15-2, 3-0 Big East) bounced back from Saturday's 68-65 loss at North Carolina that knocked them from the No. 1 spot they held in the rankings for the previous five weeks.

No. 18 Texas Tech 67, No. 20 Oklahoma 47

LUBBOCK, Texas Andre Emmett scored 21 points and No. 18 Texas Tech won its 11th straight game.

The winning streak is Tech's longest under coach Bob Knight. The Red Raiders won 10 in a row during the 2001-02 season his first at the school before a loss at Oklahoma.

Top 25 Women

HARTFORD, Conn. Diana Taurasi made a career-high seven 3s and finished with 27 points to lead No. 5 Connecticut to a 72-47 victory Monday over Rutgers.

The Huskies (13-2, 4-1 Big East) also got solid play from reserve center Willnett Crockett, who finished with eight rebounds and three blocks.

No. 13 North Carolina 72, Maryland 59

COLLEGE PARK, Md. Camille Little had 14 points and 15 rebounds, and North Carolina had four other players in double figures.

La'Tangela Atkinson scored 13 points and Nikita Bell had 12 for the Tar Heels (14-2, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), who have won six straight and 12 of 13 against Maryland.
