Area chambers set schedules

The Nikiski Chamber of Commerce has moved the venue of its weekly luncheon to Ohana's Family Restaurant.

Gary Superman, president of the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly will speak at the luncheon at noon today about capital improvements for the borough. Lt. Kurt Phillips, with the U.S. Coast Guard Kenai office will speak Jan. 27. For more information, call Judene Van Cleave at 776-5551.

Jim Posey, general manager for Municipal Light and Power, will speak at the Soldotna chamber luncheon at noon Tuesday at the Riverside. He will speak about future power in the Cook Inlet region. For more information, call Shanon Hamrick at 262-9814.

Sherril Miller and Christine Gehrett from Kenai Peninsula College will be the featured speakers at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon at noon Wednesday at Paradisos. They will give an update on new degree programs at KPC. For more information, call the Kenai chamber at 283-7989.

Ronald McDonald to visit peninsula

McDonald's chief happiness officer Ronald McDonald will appear in communities across the state this week as part of McDonald's ongoing commitment to social responsibility and giving back to the community.

He will appear today at the Homer McDonald's from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday he will be in Kenai from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Business workshops offered

Mark Gregory, director of the Small Business Development Center, will present a free start-up workshop that goes through the basic process of starting a business. The workshop will take place Wednesday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the center, 43335 Kalifornsky Beach Road, Suite 16. Registration is required no later than one day prior to the scheduled workshop. KEDS to hold public hearing

The Kenai Economic Development Strategy group will hold a public forum at 10 a.m. Feb. 5 at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center to discuss the draft economic development strategy they developed. For more information, call Andy Varner at 283-8240.
