Sondra K. Harris
Cooper Landing resident Sondra K. Harris died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at her home, after a long fight with cancer. She was 62.
No services are planned.
Mrs. Harris was born May 27, 1942, in Fairplay, Mo. She has been in Alaska since Dec. 31, 1973, and lived Cooper Landing since 1984. She was the wife of a career military noncommissioned officer. She did her duty, too.
Mrs. Harris enjoyed sewing, crocheting, collecting recipes and her houseplants. She also enjoyed going out for a cup of chai tea and visiting with friends and family.
"She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a friend. She excelled in all these roles. Simply stated, she was born in Missouri and died in love. Everything in between is an accumulation of ordinary details that viewed independently mean little, but collectively, paint a picture of a wonderful lady living a full and loving life. Her family and many, many friends will miss her dearly. Her comment on her time here would be, 'Hey, what a deal!'" her husband said.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lois and Clifford Pickel; and younger sister, Virginia Wharton.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, John Harris of Cooper Landing; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Lori Harris of Sterling; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Russel Stewart of Cooper Landing; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Patty Harris of Kasilof; grandchildren, Amanda Nichols of Anchorage, David, Christopher and Stephen Harris of New Jersey, Jessica Stewart of Cooper Landing, Alyssa and Breanna Godes of Sterling and Jack and Kate Harris of Kasilof.
Mrs. Harris's family suggests donations be made to the Hospice of the Central Peninsula, P.O. Box 2584, Soldotna, AK 99669.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
