Soldotna defeats Colony

The Soldotna High School hockey team scored three goals in the second period, then withstood a late Colony rally to post a 3-1 win over the Knights in a North Star Conference game at Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla Thursday.

Brian Herring scored a pair of goals for the Stars, one short-handed and one on the power play. Anton Olson also scored for the Stars.

Micah Perletti turned in a solid performance in goal for Soldotna, turning aside 17 of 18 third-period Colony shots.

Kenai 8, Palmer 0

The Kardinals defeated the Moose in a North Star Conference game at Palmer Ice Arena.

Jed McGlasson had two goals and two assists for Kenai and Owen Dukowitz picked up an assist to go with his hat trick.

SoHi cagers beat Grace

The Soldotna High School boys and girls basketball teams defeated Grace Christian Thursday in the opening round of the Kotzebue High School basketball tournament.

The Soldotna girls defeated the Grizzlies 43-35.

The Soldotna boys got a game-winning basket from Kelly Seggerman in the closing seconds to defeat the Grizzlies 49-48.

Game statistics were not available.

The tournament continues with the Stars playing Point Hope Friday. The girls game is at 2:30 p.m., with the boys to play at 4 p.m. On Saturday, the Stars will play the host Huskies. The girls play at 6:30 p.m. and the boys follow at 8 p.m.
