Longtime Kenai resident Coretha H. "Crete" Matthews died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. She was 90.
In honor of Ms. Matthews' wishes, no services, other than a private viewing at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, will be held.
Ms. Matthews was born in Lake Oswego, Ore., on Sept. 2, 1917. She lived in Crescent City, Calif., before moving to Kenai in 1967. After retiring from the Kenai Senior Center, Ms. Matthews spent her time cooking, gardening and loving her family. She won a beautification award in 1983 for her home in Old Town Kenai.
Ms. Matthews was preceded in death by her son, Fred Bettencourt, parents, and five siblings.
She is survived by her children, Judy Foreman and her husband, Dave, of Anchorage and Susanville, Calif., Becky Langston of Kenai, Don Matthews of Kenai, Glen Langston of Arizona and Laurie Johnson of Kenai; grandchildren Larissa Allen and her husband, Mike, of California, Todd Bettencourt of California, Scott Foreman of California, Kevin Foreman of Arizona, Jamie Matthews and his partner, Zaruba Wolfe, of Kenai, Josiah Matthews and his wife, Krysta, of Kenai, Sean, Josh and Corey Matthews of Washington, and Jason Wik of Kenai; great-grandchildren Kymber, Justin and Hilary Allen of California, Amy and Trevor Foreman of California, Brooke and Trenton Foreman of Arizona, Bella Matthews of Washington, Christian and Alayna Matthews of Kansas and Kenai, and numerous other relatives.
