Chambers set schedules

Kenai Chamber 'Unsung Heros' recognized

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce hosts the community awards ceremony "Our Unsung Heroes" Saturday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Kenai Cultural and Visitor's Center. Keynote speaker will be Kip Knudson, Chair, Alaska State Chamber of Commerce. Call 283-7989 for tickets.

Tax and business seminar on tap

ESD Tax Seminar will be presented by the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Thursday, Jan. 20, from 1 -- 3 p.m. at the Peninsula Job Center, 11312 Kenai Spur Highway, Suite #2. The workshop will cover subjects including: employer reporting requirements, how to register a new business, file quarterly reports, pay unemployment tax and report changes for the business. The workshop will also explain what to expect if you receive an audit notice, what records we ask for and why; plus cover common misconceptions about employee versus contract labor status. Energy audit application period open

Applications for the state's commercial energy audit program are being accepted until Feb. 15

Through the program, which is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and administered by the Alaska Energy Authority, owners of some commercial buildings can be reimbursed up to $6,500 for an energy audit that provides information on how to make the building more energy efficient and the cost of doing so.

Up to 150 buildings will be able to participate in the program. Commercial buildings, including those owned by non-profits, up to 125,00 square feet are eligible for the program. Owners will be reimbursed for the cost of their audit up to a certain amount per square foot.
