Fish and Game advisory board meets

The Cooper Landing Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet Friday at 3 p.m. at the Community Building in order to prepare comments on Southcentral region game proposals and hold elections. For more information contact Karl Romig at 595-1262.

The Kenai/Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. with a location and agenda to be determined following the election meeting today. For more information contact Mike Crawford at 252-2919.

The Homer Fish and Game Advisory Committee will tentatively meet Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. at the NERRS building to continue discussion of UCI BOF proposals, and prepare comments on BOG proposals. For more information contact Marvin Peters at 235-2468.

Coat giveaway coming up

Coats are being given away Jan. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Peninsula Grace Youth Center, for families and individuals in need of warm winter jackets. For more information contact 262-6442 or

KDLL radio open house and annual meeting

KDLL's annual meeting and open house is Friday at 6 p.m. at the KDLL studio, 14896 Kenai Sur Highway, Return Board of Director's ballots to the studio beforehand or bring them to the meeting. All ballots must be received by KDLL prior to 6 p.m. on Jan. 21. The open house is open to all and will include refreshments and conversations. For more information call 283-8433.

Art guild has annual meeting

The Peninsula Art Guild annual board meeting for members, artists and the community will be held Saturday at the Kenai Fine Art Center, 816 Cook Ave. from 2 to 4 p.m. The Guild is looking for new board members, new programs and new ideas. Enjoy a cup of coffee with Kenai Mayor Porter on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Plan to stop by Kenai City Hall, meet the mayor and exchange ideas or concerns about Kenai.

Unsung Heroes' recognition coming up

Tickets are available for the Kenai Chamber of Commerce's Community Awards Ceremony: "Our Unsung Heroes" on Ssaturday. The evening will include hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. The keynote speaker is Kip Knudson, chair of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce. The cost is $35 per person. Call 283-7989 for more information.

It's fiesta time

Sterling Head Start, in cooperation with the Sterling Community Club, is hosting a Fiesta. It will include a Mexican dinner, variety show and auction on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Sterling Senior Center. Tickets are $25 at Sterling Head Start, CBC Rentals, Alaska Wedding Brokers and Sedona Florist. Cribbage tournament now on

The 17th annual Kenai Peninsula cribbage tournament runs on Saturdays at 3 p.m. until April 30 at the American Legion in Kenai, which is at 902 Cook Street. Members of the public are welcome to participate. For more information call Raymond at 776-5688 or Bob at 776-5339.

Youth indoor soccer starting

The Boys and Girls Club is accepting registrations for Indoor Soccer for youth ranging from 4-years-old to 5th grade. The child must be 4 by Feb. 4. The season runs from March 21 to May 7. Cost is $60, and the child must be a 2011 member. Membership cost is $10 for kindergarten and under, $75 for 1st to 5th grades. The registration deadline is Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. Registrations are taken at the Kenai Recreation Center, or fax to 283-4675. For more information call 283-3318.

Swim lesson openings in Nikiski

Nikiski Pool has space available in semi-private lessons starting Feb. 1, a competitive swim class starting March 22 and an American Red Cross Lifeguard Class starting Feb. 22. For more information call 776-8800.

Ski for women

Tsalteshi Trails 7th Annual She Can Ski event will be Feb. 6, at the Tsalteshi trailhead at Skyview High school. The 5k classic event starts at 11:30 a.m. and skate at 12:30 p.m. This is a partner event, so bring your friends and relatives, all ages and abilities welcome. Festive attire is always encouraged. Valentine walleyball coming soon

The date for the Valentine Wallyball Tournament has changed! The Kenai Recreation Center is hosting its annual 3 vs. 3 tournament on Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fee is $15 per player or $45 per team. Entry forms need to be turned in by Jan. 27 to guarantee a T-shirt. Late entries no later than Feb. 8. Pick up your entry form at the Recreation Center, and join in on some friendly competition!
