The following students participated in the school spelling bee Thursday: fourth-graders Jared Duncan, Phoebe Napolitano, Keana Gauss, Joe Saunders and Elizabeth Schoessler; fifth-graders Dallin Carlson, Jason Johnson, Brittany Russell, Cassie Sheridan and John Stenglein; and sixth-graders Kaile Duncan, Ryan McMaster, Sarah Mallette, Emily Culhane, Kris Klunder, Shayna Mullins, Serena Marquis, Cameron Harvey, Chris Closson and Derek Pace. The winner this year was Brittany Russell. Kris Klunder placed second and is the alternate should Brittany not be able to attend the state spelling bee in April.

The Alaska Junior Theatre will present a program by the dance troupe, FLY. Students will attend this performance Feb. 2 in the Soldotna High School Auditorium. There is no charge for this event, but parent permission is required as students will be traveling from school by bus.

Three students fared well in the Elk's Hoop Shoot competition held at Soldotna Middle School on Jan. 10. Kailee Skjold placed first in the 8- and 9-year-old girls' category; Cameron Harvey placed third in the 10- and 11-year-old boys' group; and Shelby Dykstra place second in the 12- and 13-year-old girls' event. Congratulations to all three for their excellent efforts.

Preregistration for kindergarten for 2004-05 will be held beginning next week. Parents may stop in to the school anytime during office hours to pick up a registration packet.
