Beginning Tuesday, the first of three important assessment tests will be administered. The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) runs Tuesday through Thursday, and the Terra Nova achievement test and the High School Graduation Qualifying Exam are scheduled for Feb. 17 to 19. The Terra Nova is required of all ninth-graders. The High School Graduation Qualifying Exam is administered to sophomores, as well as those juniors and seniors who have not passed part or all of the test, as required by the state for graduation.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities available to them for tutoring. Saturday School begins this week and runs through Feb. 14. Also, after-school tutoring will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week through Feb. 12 in the computer lab.
The Stars hockey team travels to the Valley this weekend. The Stars begin their three-game series against Colony at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, followed by Palmer at 1:15 p.m. Friday and Wasilla at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
The wrestling team is away Friday then back in town Saturday to take on the Panthers at Skyview.
The varsity and junior varsity basketball teams see action against Skyview starting at 3:30 p.m. Friday. All teams play host to the Homer Mariners beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Friday is the last day for students to drop or add classes.
