The Homer Chamber of Commerce and "friends of the fishing hole" announce a special July 4 halibut fishing tournament in Homer.
The proceeds of the tournament will benefit the Homer Spit Lagoon fishing hole. The entry fee is $100, with 70 percent of the fees collected to go to the top three anglers of the day determined by the biggest fish. All anglers on each boat must be entered in the tournament to participate.
It now costs about $50,000 a year to stock the fishing hole with king and coho salmon. This tournament will be one source of funding for stocking efforts.
