Pebble rep disagrees with letter

Letter to the Editor

Posted: Monday, January 21, 2008

I am writing in response to Mr. Richard Hahn's Jan. 8 letter in which he suggests that exploration activities at Pebble may be harming the environment. Nothing could be further from the truth.

All of the geological and environmental study work currently occurring at Pebble has achieved 100 percent compliance with state permits. In fact, we go beyond permit compliance in many important ways including using helicopters to move equipment and drills to minimize our footprint on the tundra.

In four years of monitoring surface water quality surrounding the Pebble Project site, we have seen no changes as a result of our activities.

The Pebble Partnership is committed to, and achieving, the highest possible standards of environmental protection at every stage of project development. If we can't advance Pebble in a way that fully protects the fisheries and water resources of Bristol Bay, it will not be developed.
