Knight takes 11th at Besh Cup

Brent Knight, a graduate of Soldotna High School, took 11th in the 10-kilometer men's classic race on Sunday in Besh Cup racing at McNeil Canyon Ski Trails in Homer.

Knight, a Senior skier, had a time of 39 minutes, 22 seconds. Also from the peninsula, Skyview graduate Erick Romig was 14th, Kenai's Trent Semmens was 19th, Homer ski coach Jan Spurkland was 22nd, Cook Inlet Academy's Lars Arneson was 26th, Skyview's Tommy Honer was 38th, Homer's Gus Beck was 44th, Soldotna's Aaron Chase was 45th, Soldotna's Ryan Sanders was 46th, Skyview's Yuzhun Evanoff was 60th, Cooper Landing's Karl Romig was 66th, Homer's Will Jasper was 67th, Soldotna's Steve Milliron was 70th, Seward's David Apperson was 73rd and Homer's Jon Berryman was 74th.

In the Junior 1/Older Junior women's race, Soldotna's Jasmine Clock paced the peninsula in the 5-kilometer race with a time of 22:42. Also from the peninsula, Soldotna's Kailey Mucha was 26th, Kenai's Molly Watkins was 28th, Homer's Gillian Beran-Maryott was 31st, Homer graduate Erika Klaar was 38th, Homer's Emma Teal Laukitis was 39th, Homer's Claire Laukitis was 42nd, Homer's Jaclyn Arndt was 55th, Soldotna's Deanne Martin was 67th, Soldotna Middle's Bree Mucha was 69th, Homer's Katherine Miller was 73rd, Homer's Marie Schmidt was 84th, Homer's Emily Schmidt was 91st, Homer's Alaine Miller was 93rd and Homer's Katie Schmidt was 97th.

In the Junior 2 boys race, Kenai's Anders Nyquist was the top peninsula finisher. He was 11th in the 5-kilometer race with a time of 20:45. Also from the peninsula, Kenai's Travis Semmens was 15th, Skyview's Hunter Jackinsky was 20th and Skyview's Brayden Holt was 27th.

In the girls Junior 3 and 4 race, Soldotna Middle School's Maranda Merkes finished second in the 3-kilometer race with a time of 15:59.
