JUNEAU (AP) -- Three man were arraigned Monday on robbery charges after arrests in two unrelated incidents.
Logan Henkins, 19, was charged with robbing a Williams Express gas station Sunday morning using a 2-foot metal pipe.
Gustavo Ramirez, 19, and Ian Patterson, 21, were charged with beating and robbing a man Sunday night in the parking lot of a hotel near the airport.
''We don't have a large number of these types of robberies,'' said Police Capt. Tom Porter. ''We're such a small town, there's a greater chance of a criminal being recognized or identified and it's not like in other places where you can just keep driving and get to the next town.''
A man wearing a ski mask and carrying a pipe entered the gas station at about 4 a.m. Sunday. The man went behind the counter, threatened the clerk, and demanded money and cigarettes, according to a Williams manager.
Kay Woytowich said the man got away with little money since it is store policy to place large deposits from the day's sales into safe that employees cannot access.
Henkins was arrested a short time later at a nearby trailer court.
At about 9 p.m., Ramirez and Patterson were charged with robbing and beating a man who told police he didn't know the pair. The victim said he was walking through an apartment parking lot when the two men approached him and then chased him into the parking lot of the Frontier Suites Airport Hotel. The robbers made off with his wallet and cell phone.
Police arrested Patterson and Ramirez as they entered an apartment where the chase began.
