Mitch Seavey wins Klondike 300 Sled Dog Race

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Mitch Seavey of Seward crossed the finish line at 2:33 p.m. Monday to win the 2002 Klondike 300 Sled Dog Race, a mid-distance qualifier for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

Seavey's son, Tyrell Seavey, took second place, reaching the Big Lake finish line at 5:35 p.m.

Peter Bartlett finished about an hour later at 6:36 p.m. and took third.

Fourteen mushers entered the race. Three had withdrawn as of Monday.

The race began Saturday morning at Big Lake. Mushers race to Skwentna, Yentna, Petersville and return to Big Lake. They have three mandatory six-hour layovers along the way.
