I don’t know what’s more pathetic, Catlin Melvin’s Jan. 15 letter to the editor or the Clarion printing a letter so full of errors.
If you lefties are going to continue to write in to this paper and others with your rants, please try and come close to reality. The Democrats winning the mid-term was more about the Republicans failure to support their base than than a belief the left would do anything about the war, which they haven’t, in case you haven’t noticed. The terrorist’s have made it clear they like the results, in case you missed that, too.
To clear up some of Mr. Melvin’s points. Saddam was hanged for the butcher he was by the legitimate government of Iraq, not the U.S. Saddam was hanged for ordering the murder of 148 villagers not 148,000 as Mr. Melvin would assert. This inflated number plays right into the much debunked other number he quoted of 655,000 Iraqis being killed since the war started. Knocking a zero off that number will bring you closer the the actual figure, and most of them have been killed by the bad guys, not American soldiers.
Then there’s the old tried and false “Bush lied, people died!” number, and Saddam didn’t have WMDs. Let me help Mr. Melvin out here. Several U.S. intelligence agencies and several friendly foreign nation intelligence agencies told President Bush that Iraq definitely had the weapons. I’d encourage Mr. Melvin to ask a Kurd if Saddam had WMDs.
Saddam violated 17 U.N. resolutions, committed countless violations of the ’91 cease-fire agreement. Note please: Cease-fire, meaning if you don’t break the rules we won’t break you.
France, Russia, China and certain U.N. officials were against any action because they were making money hand over fist from the food for oil scam.
I could go on but why bother. The blue Kool-Aid sucking, narcissistic, hate America, march through Cuba and ignore their human rights crimes to get to Gitmo crowd isn’t listening. That’s why folks like Mr. Melvin are quoted whatever garbage their handlers are dishing out.
I have no problem with reasoned dissent. The president has done several things I don’t agree with, but don’t the facts matter here anymore?
