Chamber lunch to host small business expert

The speaker at today's Greater Soldotna Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be Mark Gregory, executive director of the Small Business Development Center. The luncheon will be at noon at the Riverside House in Soldotna. It is open to the public.

HCHP annual meeting today

The Healthy Communities-Healthy People annual meeting will be today at 5:30 p.m. at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center, at 197 Park Ave. There will be a presentation on the access to dental health care for children enrolled in Medicaid and Denali Kid Care. State Health and Social Services Deputy Commissioner Jay Livey will provide an overview of Gov. Tony Knowles' proposed budget for the next fiscal year.

Workshop to focus on government bids

Frontier Community Services forum today

An open forum will be held today at the CARTS office on Kalifornsky Beach Road at 7 p.m. for the purpose of reviewing the developmental disabilities services provided by Frontier Community Services by the state of Alaska.

Shellfish permits due

The 2000 personal-use, sport-fishing shellfish permits are due back to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game by Jan. 31. They should be returned even if you did not go clamming or crabbing. They may be dropped off at the Fish and Game office on Kalifornsky Beach Road or mailed to 333 Raspberry Road, Anchorage, AK 99518.

Totem Tracers to meet Thursday

The Kenai Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will have its January meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Kenai Community Library on Thursday. A program on dating old photographs will be presented. It is open to the public.

Youth basketball tourney sign-ups open

The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula and the Peninsula Winter Games announce sign-ups for the Winter Three-on-Three Youth Basketball Tournament for ages 14 through 16. The tournament will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Kenai Recreation Center.

Cost is $10 per entrant. All participants will receive a tournament T-shirt. Teams placing first, second and third will receive trophies.

Space is limited, so register early at the Boys and Girls Club office in Kenai. The deadline is Friday.

CPGH to offer Safe Sitter courses

Central Peninsula General Hospital will offer Safe Sitter courses for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. The courses will be held Feb. 8 and 9 for home-schooled children and Feb. 19 and 20 for all other students.

The classes are designed to help young people become more confident care givers. To register a child, or for more information, call 262-8172.

Job Shadow program seeks job hosts

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Kenai Central High School are seeking job hosts for its annual Job Shadow Day program to be held Feb. 14. Participants are asked to share their career or business with a student for either a half or full day.
