Church hosts Easter musical

Practices for a community Easter musical will start at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at Soldotna Church of God, on the corner of Binkley and Redoubt streets. It is open to everyone. For more information, call 262-4729.

Members meeting slated

The Kenai Fine Arts Center will have its annual members meeting at 1 p.m. Feb. 2. It is open to the public. For more information, call 262-1777.

Flute-making workshop to be held

Ande Manta, a South American musical group performing in Seldovia on Feb. 5, will conduct a pan flute-making workshop after school at the Susan B. English School on Feb. 5. A materials fee of $10 will be required for each participant. The workshop is open to all ages. Contact Paul at the Boys and Girls Club to sign up for the workshop.

GCI solicits poems for insert

Published poets are asked to submit a poem for the GCI National Poetry Month insert. The insert goes into each GCI bill throughout the state in April, reaching more than 100,000 people. Poems must be Alaska-related and authors may submit up to two poems. Poems may be a maximum of 12 lines, typed on white, 8.5- by 11-inch paper and in 12-point font.

Submissions must include the author's name, address, phone number and e-mail address, a one-page list of publications and a one-paragraph biography.

Entries should be mailed to Alaska State Council on the Arts Poetry Submission, 411 W. 4th Ave., Suite 1E, Anchorage, AK 99501-2343. The postmark deadline is Feb. 14. Manuscripts will not be returned. Authors should include a a self-addressed stamped envelope or e-mail address to receive notification of selection.

Talent show accepting acts

Application forms are available for the 2003 Nikiski Talent Show, to be held March 1. Forms can be obtained at the Nikiski Middle-High School,the Nikiski Post Office, M & M Market, Great Northern Video and Old Time Music in Kenai. The entry deadline is Feb. 14. Writer's Night accepting submissions

Submissions are being accepted for the Central Peninsula Writer's Night event, a showcase of creative writing on the central Kenai Peninsula.

Entry blanks and guidelines are available at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Entrants must live between Ninilchik and Cooper Landing. There are separate categories for adults and high school students. The entry deadline is 4 p.m. Feb. 2. Entries can be brought to the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, mailed to the center at 11471 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai, AK 99611 or e-mailed to jay.barrett@visitkenai.com.
