The Kenai Central High School hockey team skated to a win Thursday, narrowly defeating Palmer, 7-5, in a North Star Conference game at Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla.
Also Thursday in Wasilla, the Soldotna Stars took the Colony Knights to overtime in a conference game, but the Knights prevailed in the extra period, 3-2.
The Kardinals found themselves tied with the Moose midway through the third period, but Kenai was able to score a pair of goals down the stretch to secure the win.
Trevor Baldwin and Phillip Ischi each scored a pair of goals for Kenai while Daniel Christianson, Charlie Smith and John McGlasson had one goal apiece.
The Stars were trailing the Knights 2-0 to start the third period before Johnny Mills tallied just 43 seconds into the frame, pulling Soldotna to within a goal.
Then, with just 27 seconds left in regulation, Brian Herring scored, sending the game to overtime, where Colony's Scott Beckman decided the game with a goal 2:43 into the extra period.
Kenai and Soldotna will stay in Wasilla for the weekend. Soldotna plays Palmer today and Wasilla Saturday while Kenai faces Wasilla today and Colony Saturday.
Skyview will join Kenai and Soldotna at the Brett to face Colony today and Palmer Saturday.
