Ninilchik girls win Cordova tourney

The Ninilchik Wolverines girls defeated Cordova 53-23 in the championship game of Cordova's tournament in Cordova Saturday.

Emily Wood led Ninilchik with 17 points, including five 3-pointers.

Ninilchik overcame a slow start and then used a big third quarter to pull away.

Jen Erickson added 12 points, and Kendra Moerlein pitched in 10 for Ninilchik.

Lumen Christi boys 42, Seldovia 38

The Lumen Christi Archangels beat Seldovia Saturday at Seldovia. The Archangels held the Otters to only three points in the final period, while racking up 20 of their own en route to the win.

Phillip Chinnery led Lumen Christi with a game-high 16 points, while Kevin McNeal pitched in nine.

The Otters were led by Jimmie Payton's 10.

Seward boys 58, Homer 56

Friday night, the Seward boys snuck past the Homer Mariners in a nonconference game at Seward.

Down by four points entering the fourth quarter, Ryan Dieckgraeff and Corey Hetrick combined to score 13 of Seward's 16 points in the fourth to edge Homer.

Dieckgraeff finished with 13 points while Hetrick and Issac Elhard each pitched in 11.

Luke Gilbert led Homer with a game-high 17 points and Charlie Trowbridge had 14. Casey Siekaniac added 11 for Homer.
