The Seward Parks and Recreation Department (SPRD) hosted the 2007 Wells Fargo Polar Bear Jumpoff Tournament this past weekend, Jan. 6 and 7. The immense success of the tournament was due to the hard work and diligence of all involved parties. SPRD would like to start by thanking our sponsors, Wells Fargo Bank, Polar Bear Jumpoff Association and the Breeze Inn.

The Breeze Inn threw a little something new into the mix this year, a challenge to the teams. If the winning team was staying with them, their entire team would be free. So this year’s champs, Pizza Man, added a free stay to their trophy and $600 check.

SPRD would like to thank The Right Call official association for sending their hard-working, skilled referees. Barry Stagmire, Mike Plumber and Kelvin Lee joined our local official Eddie Wiggins to call all of this weekend’s games. Thank you all for your extra efforts this weekend. It made for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

A big thank you is owed to Seward High and Seward Middle schools for the use of their facilities. The tournament broke in the middle school, just a year old, for adult basketball.

Thank you to the fans who always add an electricity and excitement to the game atmosphere that makes these events more enjoyable.

And finally, thank you to the volunteers and staff whose long hours and good attitudes made this weekend one to remember.
