A Soldotna man was killed when the snowmachine he was driving hit a tree.
David Santee, 53, appeared to have died several weeks ago, according to Alaska State Troopers, but he wasn’t discovered until a niece in Maple Valley, Wash., contacted troopers to do a welfare check on Santee. He had not been heard from since mid-December.
Troopers responded to Santee’s residence near Mile 14.5 of Funny River Road and discovered Santee had died following an accident on his property. An investigation revealed Santee had struck a tree while riding a snowmachine and was thrown from it. Santee was not wearing a helmet.
Foul play is not suspected, and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved. Troopers are still investigating the accident.
Santee was living alone at the time of his death.
