Annual wine tasting, auction to be held
Hospice of the Central Peninsula’s 11th annual Hospice Auction and Wine Tasting will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Gourmet appetizers and specialty wines will be served. A silent auction, live auction and variety of instant purchases are some of the planned activities. Birders flock together
Keen Eye Peninsula Birders will meet Feb. 12. The group will meet at the Short Stop and then continue to the mouth of the Kasilof River for a birding field trip. Following the trip they will stop at Coffee Roasters for a short meeting. It is open to the public. For more information and time of meeting, call Linda Story at 262-9031.
Reading carnival slated
The fourth annual Peninsula Reading Carnival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 in the Soldotna Middle School gym. Applications for booths at the event will be accepted through Monday. Proceeds will benefit literacy projects.

Snowmachine fundraiser set to ride
The Way Out Women (WOW) will hold its annual snowmachine ride March 3. Proceeds will benefit Central Peninsula Hospital’s cancer fund that assists local cancer patients. The Central Peninsula Health Foundation will administer the funds through the Oncology and Infusion Center at Central Peninsula Hospital.
The $100 entry fee will include a continental breakfast, “goody bag” and a limited edition T-shirt. There will be prizes and a chance to ride the new Polaris snowmachines. Riders are encouraged to seek pledges. Pledges can be turned in early or at the event.
The deadline for registration is Feb. 15. People may register after Feb. 15, but there is no guarantee “goody bags” will be available.

CPH old entrances to close
Central Peninsula Hospital will close the entrances to the old part of the hospital, now renamed the River Pavilion, on Friday. The entrances will be closed to due to renovation on the old hospital as part of the hospital's Phase lll project.
Patients and visitors will need to use the Mountain Tower entrance, the emergency department entrance or the entrance near the gift shop at the east end of the hospital.
Fundraiser for Ninilchik library scheduled
A fundraiser for the Ninilchik Community Library will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Carol Bock Hall at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds. The fundraiser will include a talent show and a spaghetti dinner and dessert silent auction. For more information, call Debi Henderson at 252-3544.
