Zach Alkire recorded a hat trick and visiting Nikiski used a trio of second-period goals to defeat Homer, 6-2, in non-conference action on Tuesday.
Matt Thompson got things rolling for the Bulldogs, staking his team to a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period off an assist from Alkire.
After Homer's Brady Quinn knotted the score off assists from Reni Robbin and Mason Blake with only 59 seconds remaining in the first, the Mariners grabbed a 2-1 lead when Jason Baird found Quinn 8:43 into the second.
But Alkire promptly took over.
He tied the game with 5:44 to play in the second and following an unassisted tally by Beau Calderwood that made it a one-goal game, Alkire struck twice more in a 35-second stretch spanning the end of the second period and the beginning of the third.
Thompson then put the game away 1:34 later off assists from Matt O'Brien and Jordan Harrison as the Bulldogs outshot the Mariners, 38-20. Nikiski goaltender Tyler Bethune stopped 18-of-20 shots while Homer goalie Luke Eckert denied 32-of-38.
