ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Denali Park Resorts plans to close the historic 103-room Denali National Park Hotel in September. It's the only hotel within the six million-acre park and preserve.
The company said the National Park Service plans to turn the hotel into the Denali Science and Learning Center.
The Alaska Railroad began construction of the hotel in 1938. It was rebuilt after being damaged by a fire. It also was closed for a couple of years during World War II when it served exclusively as a recreation camp for the Army.
The hotel has been open only for the summer tourist season since 1954, the company said.
