NAKNEK (AP) -- Trident Seafoods won't be opening its plant in South Naknek this summer, the company announced Thursday.
Current market conditions, including low prices and a glut of farmed salmon, are the reasons for the decision, said Vic Scheibert, the company's operations manager for Bristol Bay.
The plant usually employs between 150 and 200 people at South Naknek.
The company won't buy or process fish at the plant, but it will continue to provide boat storage, vessel tie-up, groceries and gear sales to fishermen at the South Naknek plant.
Trident's operations at its North Naknek plant will not be affected by the closure, the company said.
