Christmas drive efforts successful

Posted: Monday, January 24, 2005

As the new year starts, it is nice to reflect on the positive aspects of our community and our ability to support each other when needed. The Sears Elementary-Mountain View-Kenai Middle School Christmas Drive Committee met the challenge of providing assistance to 63 families this past Christmas season. The drive included food for the family along with clothing and toys for 186 children.

A generous group of shoppers and fund-raisers chaired by Kimb Remsen and including Megan O'Neil and Philippa Sonnichsen were able to purchase and sort food, clothing and toys for these families. They also staffed a distribution center for the drive and solicited donations from the community. Thanks to three great individuals for their tireless dedication to those in need in our community. Their hundreds and hundreds of hours of volunteer efforts are appreciated by all!

Thanks also goes out to Kenai Middle School for a successful canned food drive and to all the local businesses who supported this holiday drive, as well. Many businesses and individual families provided help at a time when others in our community really appreciated the assistance.
