Joseph Ross must be a politician since he adheres to the idea that all the citizenry are too stupid to pay attention (Clarion, Jan. 6).
He apparently missed school the day they taught the part about “Government of the people, by the people and for the people.”
A great statesman and philosopher once said, “The price of not being involved in politics, is that soon you are being governed by your inferiors.”
Mr. Ross claims we are all ignorant, yet he advocates that we always remain that way by not being involved in our government.
All ACT (Alliance of Concerned Taxpayers) meetings are open to the public, and we encourage every borough resident to take part, yet to my knowledge Mr. Ross has never attended a meeting to address his concerns.
Any reasonable citizen expects his government officials to function with transparency, efficiency and fiscal responsibility. Our borough government has failed to meet that criteria for some years now.
We the taxpayers have been committed to millions in expenditures that serve no purpose. Winter Games at twice the cost of any previous host, millions to build a new 911 building instead of thousands to remodel one of the many buildings sitting empty due to lost businesses on the Kenai Peninsula, and now a raid on land trust principal that creates a circumstance of ever diminishing returns for budgetary needs of the future.
This body is clearly out of control and if the good citizens do not rein it in now, the future will be bleak, indeed, for the children and grandchildren yet to come.
