Longtime Kenai resident James “Jim” Kufhta died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at the Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. He was 49.
A celebration of life and memorial potluck will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Moose Family Lodge in Kenai.
Mr. Kufhta was born, Aug. 2, 1957, in Syracuse, N.Y. He graduated from Liverpool High School in Liverpool, N.Y. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served until he was honorably discharged. He moved to Kenai in 1986 after his military service.
“He loved animals, enjoyed gardening and cooking. He was a very active member of the Kenai Family Moose Lodge,” his family said.
Mr. Kufhta was preceded in death by his father, Paul J. Kufhta.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey L. Kufhta of Syracuse; sister, MaryAnn Kufhta of Syracuse; brothers, John Kufhta of Chittenango, N.Y. , and Joe Kufhta of Mooresville, N.C.; and longtime companion, Curtis Nyquist of Kenai.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Alaska’s Extended Life Animal Sanctuary, P.O. Box 7545, Nikiski, AK 99635.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
