Kenai boys and Nikiski girls win

Kenai led 23-9 after eight minutes and 55-20 at the break and hit six 3-pointers in dominating Nikiski, 88-40, on Tuesday night at Nikiski High School.

Juniors Daniel Gustkey, Cory Toombs and Zach Beeson paced the Kardinals, who rebounded after a tough loss to Grace Christian on Saturday night.

Gustkey poured in a team-high 20 points, Toombs netted 16 and Beeson added 15 for Kenai.

Also for the Kardinals, Josh Werba, Lawrence Maxon and Josh Lazaro each scored eight points.

Junior Jesse Cook scored a team-high 20 points for the Bulldogs in the loss, while senior Kenny Fagan chipped in 12.

Nikiski girls 50, Kenai 37

The Bulldogs led 24-13 at halftime and canned five 3-pointers in edging the visiting Kardinals on Tuesday night.

Becca Carlson netted a team-high 11 points for Nikiski (10-2), which led 39-22 after three quarters.

Eliza Chadwick added nine points for the Bulldogs.

Damaris Craig led Kenai with 11 points while Kyle Steward chipped in eight.

Skyview boys 42 Homer 38

Skyview owned a 26-12 lead at halftime and went on to defeat Homer on Tuesday night in Homer.

Richie Shirnberg and Gregor Bosick each scored a team-high nine points for the Panthers while Jamie Duke netted eight.

Taylor Layland collected a game-high 10 points for Homer in the loss, while Corey Sutherland added eight.

Ninilchik girls 74, Nikolaevsk 39

The Wolverines jumped in front 22-13 after the first period and never looked back in topping the Warriors on Tuesday night at Ninilchik.

Kayleigh Rice paced Ninilchik with 21 points — including two 3-pointers — and Kjersten Skjold and Natalee Vanderford added 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Valerie Yakunin scored 17 points for Nikolaevsk in the loss, while Alex Gordeev chipped in with 14.
