JUNEAU (AP) -- Rep. Gary Stevens, R-Kodiak, introduced a bill Friday to put $12 million into salmon marketing over the next five years.
The measure calls for spending $4 million in the fiscal year that starts in July. It calls for $2 million for salmon marketing in each of the following fiscal years through June 2007.
The funds would go to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.
Currently, the only money spent on seafood marketing in Alaska comes from a tax on the fishery, Stevens said.
If House Bill 360 passed, money from the state general fund would be added to that.
