ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Los Angeles man was arrested early Friday at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport after he was found to be carrying more than a pound of cocaine, Alaska State Troopers said.

Edwin E. Pena, 20, was taken into custody after he arrived in Anchorage on a commercial flight at 12:10 a.m., troopers said. Pena was charged with third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

The 500 grams of cocaine Pena was carrying is worth about $50,000 on the street, according to troopers spokesman Greg Wilkinson.

Pena was being held on $75,000 bail at Cook Inlet Pretrial Facility.

Making the arrest was the Airport Interdiction Task Force, made up of troopers, airport police, the Drug Enforcement Administration.
