Refuge to hold fun day

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will hold a fun day Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at the refuge headquarters, located on Ski Hill Road in Soldotna. Events will include a snowshoe walk for adults and kids age 10 and over, winter crafts for kids of all ages, igloo building and a presentation on winter life in the 1920s. Town and Gown banquet slated

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will hold the 25th anniversary Town and Gown Awards Banquet, "A Salute to Our Unsung Community Heroes," at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Local group to train mediators

The Center for Mediation and Community Dialogue will host a three-day advanced mediation course entitled "Resolving Environmental and Public Policy Conflicts" Monday through Wednesday in Soldotna. The course is geared toward people who confront controversial environmental and public policy issues. For more information, call 283-9227.

Unocal to hold public meeting

Unocal Alaska will host a public meeting Feb. 7 in Anchor Point at the Anchor River Inn. This meeting is intended to help area residents learn about Unocal's drilling program currently under way in the area. For more information, call Unocal at (907) 263-7604.

Minerals Management Service to hold meetings

The Minerals Management Service will hold meetings to discuss issues to be evaluated in an environmental impact statement for communities adjacent to Cook Inlet. These meetings are the first step for a proposed Cook Inlet multi-sale environmental impact statement.

Meetings wil be held in Ninilchik Monday at the Ninilchik Senior Center, in Soldotna Tuesday in the Kenai Peninsula Borough conference room and in Homer Wednesday in the Homer City Council chambers. Meetings start at 7 p.m. For more information, call Robin Cacy at (907) 271-6070.

Tobacco Alliance offers cash for teens to quit

The Tobacco Alliance of the Kenai Peninsula will hold an introductory meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at Bridges Community Resource Network in Soldotna for the "30-Day Challenge" to quit using tobacco. This program is designed to help teens between the ages of 14 and 19 who want to quit using tobacco products. Teens who are successful in not using tobacco for 30 days will receive a $100 gift certificate that can be used at an area business of their choice. Space is limited. Ministries to hold fund-raiser for Nicaragua

Point of Hope Ministries will hold an "Alaska Cares for Nicaragua" fund-raiser Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Nikiski Senior Center. The fund-raiser will include dinner, entertainment and a silent auction.
