SoHi selling discount cards

Soldotna High School, in cooperation with 82 area businesses, is selling discount "Star Bucks" cards to raise funds for its athletic department. The cards will offer modest discounts at area stores. Discounts for apparel, beauty and hair care, car care, crafts, hobbies, flowers, candy, foods and home improvements are included. Two hundred fifty cards are available for purchase. Food handlers class planned

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation will sponsor a food-handlers class from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. There is no fee for this class. Preregistration is required. For more information, call Jerry Farrington at 262-5210, ext. 242, or e-mail him at

WRCC board meeting slated

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold its monthly board meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at 325 S. Spruce St. in Kenai. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call 283-9479.

Fish and Game committee to meet

The Kenai-Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Kenai River Center. The topic of discussion will be the fishing regulation proposals for the Board of Fish 2005 cycle. For more information, call Dwight Kramer at 283-1054.

Community Schools to sponsor financial class

Soldotna Community Schools will sponsor a nine-hour educational financial class from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. Thursday and Feb. 2 or from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and Feb. 4 at Soldotna Middle School.

The class will help with understanding of investments, planning for retirement or college tuition and discussing concerns about the market. The cost is $50. For more information or to register, call 262-6768.

Groundhog Day fund-raiser set

The Marine Corps League Detachment No. 838 will hold a Groundhog Day fund-raiser beginning at 4 p.m. at the VFW No. 10221 hall in Anchor Point. Home day-care help offered

The Child Care Food Program, an office of the Women's Resource and Crisis Center, is offering information on how home day-care providers in the central Kenai Peninsula area can be reimbursed for part of the cost of food served. For more information, call Jennette Browning at 283-4707.

Kennel club offering dog classes

The Kenai Kennel Club is offering classes at its facility in the former Inlet Card and Craft store in the C Plaza in Kenai. Classes include beginning agility, puppy kindergarten, basic, intermediate and advance obedience, rally obedience and conformation handling.
