The Kenai Central High School hockey team finished the weekend with three wins at Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla to run its North Star Conference record to 8-0 and secure the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament.
After defeating Wasilla 6-1 Friday, the Kardinals came back to beat Colony 5-1 Saturday. Kenai had trouble staying at even strength in Saturday's game, but the special teams came through with short-handed goals from Daniel Christianson, John McGlasson and Charlie Smith, and power-play goals by Levi Goldsby and Phillip Ischi.
Soldotna also visited the Valley this weekend and finished 1-2, though the Stars played some of their best hockey of the season. Soldotna dropped a 6-4 decision to Wasilla Saturday, and defeated Palmer 6-1 in Friday's game.
The Skyview Panthers also made the trip to the Brett, dropping a 3-0 decision to Colony Friday. The Panthers played Palmer late Saturday night, and trailed the Moose 5-3 as the Clarion went to press. Paddy Iverson tallied for the Panthers, as did Gabe Fellman and Ginny Berg.
