Skyview hangs on for region win against SoHi

The Skyview girls held off a furious Soldotna rally to pull out a one point victory Friday at Skyview, 29-28.

Trailing 21-15 entering the fourth quarter, Soldotna managed to outscore the Panthers 13-8 over the last eight minutes to nearly steal the victory. The Stars were led by freshman center Kaylee Wilbanks, who scored a game-high nine points, including four in the fourth.

Skyview's Shelly Heffner led the Panthers with eight points, six of which came in the second half.

Nikiski 44, Grace Christian 37

Sarah Herrin scored 17 points, while Krystal Gladden, Sasha Auldridge and Lynzie Ellis added eight apiece to help Nikiski to a 44-37 District 3/3A win Friday over Grace Christian in Anchorage.

Herrin and Ellis combined to hit four three-pointers for the Bulldogs, who also went 11-14 from the free throw line.

Shayla Moll scored a team-high 16 for the Grizzlies and Katelyn Perry added 13.

Ninilchik got scoring from ten different players en route to a 63-21 Region 2/District 3 win over Nikolaevsk Friday in Ninilchik.

The Wolverines were led by Kendra Moerlein, who scored 13 points, and Emily Wood, who netted 10.

Saturday

Nikiski 47, Heritage Christian 35

Sarah Herrin scored 11 of her 18 points in the third quarter to help Nikiski pull away from Heritage Christian in District 3/3A play Saturday in Anchorage. The Bulldogs also benefited from a strong game from Lynzie Ellis, who pumped in nine first half points as Nikiski raced to a 27-15 at the half.

Courtney Berlen scored 11 points for Heritage in the loss.

Chantrelle Cousins scored 13 points to help Homer finish off a 2-0 road trip to the central peninsula with a 49-32 Region 3/4A win over the Soldotna Stars Saturday in Soldotna.

Homer was helped by its quick start, outscoring Soldotna 34-13 in the first half to cruise to its second double-digit win of the weekend. The Mariners also beat Kenai by ten points on Friday.

Christa Kennedy had 10 points for Soldotna in the loss, while Kaylee Wilbanks added seven.
