Panthers rally for win; Nikiski pins loss on Grace

Ryan Gellar scored eight of his 13 points in the second half to lead Skyview to a 41-29 win Friday over Soldotna at Skyview High School.

Led by Matt Hicks, Soldotna took a 17-16 lead into the locker room at halftime, but was unable to stay with the Panthers down the stretch. Hicks finished with a game-high 15 points, including 5-6 from the free throw line. Dan Spindler added six for the Stars.

Nikiski 71, Grace Christian 55

Jeremiah Taylor went wild for 29 points as Nikiski cruised to a 71-55 Dirstrict 3/3A win Friday in Anchorage over Grace Christian. Miles Jorgensen chipped in 17 for Nikiski, which also got 14 from Kevin Epperheimer.

The Bulldogs turned a close game into a blowout in the fourth quarter. After Grace cut Nikiski's lead to just two at the end of the third, the Bulldogs outscored the Grizzlies 21-7 over the final eight minutes to pull away.

Noah Brauner scored 10 of his game-high 24 points in the second quarter to lead Lumen Christi to a 77-46 win Friday over Seldovia in Region 2/District 3 play in Seldovia.

Chance Collier led the Sea Otters with 14 points.

Ninilchik 40, Nikolaevsk 39

Poor free throw shooting doomed Nikolaevsk down the stretch, as the Warriors missed six of nine from the line in the fourth quarter to enable Ninilchik to squeak out a one point win in Region II/District 3 play Friday in Ninilchik.

The Wolverines were led by Jason Schollenberg, who scored nine of his team-high 11 points in the second half as Ninilchik overcame a 12-4 first quarter deficit.

Peter Tipikin scored 11 for Nikolaevsk. Anecta Kalugin added nine, but missed four of five free throw attempts in the fourth quarter.

Heritage Christian 69, Seward 41

Gabe Meissner scored 15 points to lead Heritage Christian to a 69-41 win in District 3/3A play Friday in Anchorage over the Seward Seahawks.

Ryan Dieckgraeff scored 11 to lead Seward.

Saturday

Dimond 78, Kenai 46

Dimond came out hot, jumping out to a 23-8 first half lead behind 10 points from Conner Scott to easily defeat the visiting Kenai Kardinals 78-46 Saturday in Anchorage. Conner was one of four Dimond players in double figures, including Warren Lewis, who had a game-high 16.

Kenai was led by Geofferey Gemmel, who scored 11 of his 12 points in the first half.

Kenai's big guns were obviously feeling some effect from Friday night's quadruple overtime loss to Homer, as Kardinal starters accounted for just 25 of Kenai's points. Dakota Craig came off the bench to score 10 points for the Kards, while Austin McLeod had nine.

Soldotna 45, Homer 37

Perhaps the biggest beneficiary of Homer's marathon win over Kenai Friday were the Soldotna Stars, who got 17 points from Matt Hicks and 13 from Ryan Hall to surprise the Homer Mariners 45-37 Saturday in Soldotna.

The Stars pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mariners 21-10 after trailing by three after the third. Hicks and Hall combined for 17 of those points, including 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

Homer was led by Luke Gilbert, who followed up a 25 point night Friday with 18 Saturday against SoHi.

Gilbert was the lone Mariner in double figures however, as SoHi held Homer's other four starters to just 13 total points.

Tim Ingalls hit four of Grace Christian's nine three-point shots on his way to a game-high 19 points to lead Grace Christian to a 46-38 win over Seward in District 3/3A play Saturday in Anchorage.

Matt Tegerdine also dropped four treys on Seward, which hit four three-pointers of its own.

Ryan Dieckgraeff hit three of those long balls on his way to a team-high 15 points in the losing effort for the Seahawks.
