Lester L. Garver Jr.
Anchor Point resident Lester L. Garver Jr. died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at L/V Ark Assisted Living in Homer. He was 85.
Memorial services will be held at the Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Funeral Home in Iola, Kan.
Mr. Garver was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Iola. He grew up and received his education there. He also had two years of college.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Aug. 26, 1942, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged Feb. 16, 1946, at Camp Chafee, Ark. He returned to Iola and worked at Gates Rubber and Lehigh Cement in Iola. He also farmed near Iola. He moved to Alaska in 2003 to be nearer to his son and daughter-in-law.
Mr. Garver was a member of the Christian Church in Humboldt, Kan.
“He was loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends,” his family said.
Mr. Garver was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Bair Garver; and granddaughter, Wendy Garver of Cowden. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Kathy Garver of Anchor Point; sister, Eileen Steele of Bloomfield, N.M.; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carol Garver of Arkadelphia, Ark.; grandchildren, Chuck Garver of Ferndale, Wash., Tina Wyngaert and her husband, Joe, of Ferndale, and Bob Garver of Elmirage, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Joe and Ashley Garver of Ferndale; and numerous other brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in his memory to L/V Ark, 1152 Seebreeze Ct., Homer, AK 99603.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
