Soldotna resident Russell Lee Wiseman died Jan. 16, 2011, at Central Peninsula Hospital, in Soldotna, of lung cancer complications. He was 81.

A celebration of life will be held this summer at his home with family and friends. Mr. Wiseman's wishes were for no formal services to be held and his body to be donated for research.

Mr. Wiseman was born April 13, 1929, in Wiseman, Ark., to Robert Lee and Totsy Lou Pogue Wiseman. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in Italy, 1945-1947. Mr. Wiseman was a sharp shooter marksman. After returning from the Army he worked many labor jobs and found his job of enjoyment was painting. Russell painted homes, high rise buildings, ships in ship yards and worked as a painter at Auburn University.

Mr. Wiseman married Ethel Craig at the age of 29 and helped raise her daughter at home, Janey Leah. He married Bonnie Bates in 2005 in Soldotna.

Mr. Wiseman enjoyed watching football and baseball, loved watching the birds in the yard, doing yard work with his wife and playing with the dogs. One of his favorite family times was barbecues in the yard with the "crowd." Mr. Wiseman was known to love to relay stories of times as a child during years growing up and his experiences in the Army. His daughter Janie commented of his tales of "walking across Italy while being in the Army"!

One of his favorite people in the whole world was his Grandpa Pouge. He loved walking to Grandpa's to visit with him when he was sitting in his rocking chair on the front porch with his big red rooster on his shoulder and Russell would sit on the porch and listen to Grandpa's stories he shared of loving those times.

Mr. Wiseman will be forever loved and missed, always giving family of all ages' lots of love, very fun to visit with and forever giving everyone a fun-loving hard time!
