Moderate earthquake occurs in Aleutians

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A moderate earthquake struck near the Aleutian Islands Saturday night.

The earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.3, according to the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer. The quake occurred at 10:08 p.m.

It was centered 80 miles southwest of Nikolski and was 25 miles deep.

There were no immediate reports of the quake being felt, the tsunami warning center said.
