Couple celebrates 60th anniversary

Paul and Jessie Mettille of the Heritage Place Long-Term Care Center in Soldotna celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Monday, Jan. 20, 2003.

The couple was honored by their immediate family at Heritage Place.

Mr. Mettille was born in Ottawa, Ill., and Mrs. Mettille was born in Sand Creek, Mich.

They met in Riverside, Calif., during World War II and were married by the Rev. Luke Studder, U.S. Army chaplain, in San Bernardino, Calif., in 1943.

The Mettilles have six children -- Paulene Parisot of Ottawa, Paul L. Mettille of Soldotna, Sherry Larson of Soldotna, Charles Mettille of Phoenix, Candace Robinson of Lynnwood, Wash., and Claudette Barber of Soldotna. They also have 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
