Cook Inlet Academy boys pick up district win over Seldovia

The Cook Inlet Academy boys high school basketball team netted a big win Saturday, defeating the visiting Seldovia Sea Otters 57-45 in District 3/2A play.

The Eagles led 16-9 after one quarter of play and had a 34-17 edge at the half.

Calder Hillyer led the Eagles with 20 points while Kyle Nettles scored 12.

Nick Oliveira led all scorers with 20 points for the Sea Otters.

Kardinals 54, Lynx 52, OT

The Kenai Central High boys basketball team nearly played to the wire twice against Dimond Saturday, forcing overtime and nearly ending up in a second extra period. The Kardinals won 54-52, when, with just seven seconds left in the first bonus period, the Lynx missed a potential tie field goal. Kenai collected the rebound and time ticked off the clock to end the game.

Dimond girls 48, Kardinals 42

A third-quarter rally wasn't enough to catch Dimond as Lynx defeated the Kardinals 48-42 Saturday at Kenai.

Both the Kardinals and the Dimond squad doubled their efforts in the first half. Kenai scored 9 points in each of the first two periods, and Dimond earned 13 points in each period.

Kenai's Dallas Baldwin led the Kardinals in scoring, making 11 of her game-high 17 points in the first half. The half ended with the Lynx ahead 26-18.

After the third quarter, Kenai had pulled to within 4 points, but Dimond held onto the lead. Erin Smith contributed 8 points and Erica Smith added 7 points.

Ninilchik boys 46, Glennallen 32

The Wolverines boys got the best of Glennallen Saturday at the Cordova Elks Tip-Off, beating the Panthers 46-32.

Ninilchik senior Steven Miller led all scores with 21 points, including three treys, scoring in only three quarters.

The Wolverines pounced on the lead from the beginning of the game and never let up, going 14-4 in the first period.

Ninilchik girls 47, Glennallen 31

The Ninilchik girls defeated Glennallen Saturday at the Cordova Elks Tip-Off, 47-31.

Whitney Leman led the Wolverines in scoring with 20 points, including four 3-point buckets, as Ninilchik jumped to a decisive advantage after one quarter of play.

The Wolverines were up 11-3 at the end of the first period of play, but they were only able to add 7 points in the second period. A flurry of goals in the third quarter gave Ninilchik a commanding lead, as the Wolverines scored 17 points.

Kendra Moerlein added 8 points.
