CPR classes slated
The American Red Cross of Alaska will hold CPR, AED and first aid classes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai office next to Dan’s TV and Appliance. For more information or to register, call 283-4556.
Troops return cause for celebration
The Soldotna and Kenai chambers of commerce, along with Kenai Mayor Pat Porter and Soldotna Mayor Dave Carey, will host Twin Cities Salute to Our Troops at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Kenai Armory.
The ceremony will welcome home returning troops from Iraq and show support for those getting ready to be deployed.
Returning soldiers include Will Schwenke, Gregory Fite, Roy Brendible, Ken Felchle, May Lay, John McGrane and Troy Zimmerman, all with the Alaska National Guard, Headquarters Company B, 3rd Battalion (Scout) of the 297th Infantry.
Free EMT training offered

Health fair planned
There will be a health fair from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Peninsula Center Mall.
Showin off kids applications available
Showin’ Off the Kids 2006 is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at Soldotna High School Auditorium.
Showin’ Off the Kids is a lip sync and choreography contest sponsored by Soldotna Community Schools. Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade may compete to win cash and prizes. Profits from the show go toward Soldotna Community Schools youth programs.
Applications are available at the Community Schools office or online at www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/communityschools. Completed applications should be dropped off, with a two-minute taped selection, at Dairy Queen by Feb. 3. Full dress rehearsal is scheduled for 4 p.m. Feb. 10 at Soldotna High School.

Safety Day presenters sought
The Soldotna Safety Day 2006 planning committee is seeking community members and organizations to participate.

Wrestling club seeks members
The Nikiski Freestyle Wrestling Club will hold it annual registration from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 31 and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at Nikiski North Star Elementary School. Participants are required to bring a copy of their birth certificate to be left on file with the club and a $45 registration fee. The fee covers accident insurance.
