Oilers sign Cowley County players

Posted: Friday, January 26, 2007

Cowley County Community College sophomore outfielder Michael Dabbs has signed with the Peninsula Oilers for the summer. Dabbs originally signed with Oklahoma State University and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 2006 Major League baseball draft. Dabbs then transferred to Cowley County. As a freshman, Dabbs led Cowley in doubles with 17 and RBIs with 56. For the Oilers, Dabbs will play in the outfield and be used in the middle of the lineup. Dabbs calls Chandler, Okla., home.

Cowley sophomore right-handed pitcher Tyler Flemming also has signed with the Oilers for the 2007 season. Flemming signed early with Wichita State University and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2006 Major League draft. Flemming then transferred to Cowley County. For the Oilers, Flemming will pitch in the starting rotation and also play some third base. He could see time as the team’s left-handed designated hitter. Flemming calls Enid, Okla., home.

Oilers Corner is provided by Shawn Maltby, the general manager for the Alaska Baseball League team.
